What a Validiris record proves
The item existed and was recorded at a specific time (tamper-evident, hash-chained).
Its declared sources and who issued or reviewed it.
That the record has not been altered since — independently checkable, no login.
What it does not claim
It is not a guarantee that every fact is true — it proves provenance and process.
A badge is an editorial + sourcing assessment, not a court ruling or fact-check verdict.
We reserve "Verified" for completed validation, never mere existence. See the trust ladder.
Issuer trust model
Validiris operates a hosted trust anchor: every credential is signed by Validiris and records the issuing organisation, which is limited to the credential types it was approved for. Issuers are vetted before activation (see onboarding). Misuse leads to suspension and credential revocation.
Revocation & integrity
Any credential can be revoked at any time; verification then reports it as no longer valid. The append-only ledger retains the issue and revoke events so the history itself stays verifiable.
